The Star-Spangled Banner

I am a sucker for patriotic music. I stand with my hand over my heart when the National Anthem is played or sung at a sporting event. Most of the time, I sing along. And most of the time, I get “goose bumps”.

Back in the summer of 2008, I received an e-mail with a link to a YouTube video showing a group of 5 very young girls singing an unbelievably amazing rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Texas Tech basketball game. I was literally moved to tears the first time I watched the video, and watched it numerous times. I still get goose bumps when I hear these girls sing our National Anthem.

One week ago, the United States of America elected its 44th President, Barack Obama. He will be the first African-American in the history of our country to serve in that capacity. Election Day 2008 was truly a historic day in many ways … some good, some bad. Here are my thoughts.
