Blogging 101: Date it!

I have been blogging for several years. It is not unusual for me to spend hours researching a topic for a particular blog post. I will often visit numerous other blogs and do numerous Google searches to make sure the information I have is correct, accurate and up-to-date.

That last one is crucial. In the fast-paced, ever-changing, Internet-driven world of the 21st Century, information is constantly changing. That makes it important to know when a particular article was written, to know how “fresh” it is. I need to know if the information I am gathering is up-to-date.

There is a growing trend among bloggers – even big-time bloggers with large audiences – to set up their blogs so that the publish date does not show on their blog posts. THIS DRIVES ME NUTS! Without a date I have no way of knowing, for example, whether your review of a WordPress plug-in is even still relevant, because I have no idea how long ago you posted it.

So here is my plea to my fellow bloggers and content creators:

Please publish the date that your content was created!

It will make your content much more relevant, and will make the blogosphere a much nicer place to play.

Thank you!
